Performance Metrics

The Performance Metrics Task Force was created to help card manufacturers and personalization bureaus determine the best metrics for card manufacturing and card personalization plants and has created both Personalization and Manufacturing Performance Metrics for ICMA members use.


  • Personalization Metrics

The Personalization Task Force created a dashboard to track and display monthly metrics and compare against the ‘best in class’ values for personalizers. Six metrics were chosen to have the greatest impact on a company’s manufacturing performance: % Margin–Average cost per piece / (ASP) Average selling price, Revenue per Square Foot–Monthly billing / Square meters of active shop floor by market, % Machine Idle Time–Monthly wait & change-over time / Plant operating hours, % Remakes–Number of pieces needing to be remade / total volume processed, % Missed Service Level Agreement (SLA) Pieces–Number of pieces missing SLA / Number of pieces processed, % of Customer Complaints–Number of customer complaints / Number of batches processed.

The dashboard is available to ICMA members. Log into My ICMA/Log-In to download the dashboard.

Tracking tool available for measurement
A dashboard was developed for individual personalizer members to use to track and graphically display their own monthly metrics and compare against the 'best in class' values. You can input your data on one sheet and it will translate to the dashboard on the second sheet in the document. Due to the nature of the formulas in the worksheets, we are not able to provide them as internet downloads. Please email info@icma.com to receive them via email.


 

  • Manufacturing Metrics

The Manufacturing Task Force created a dashboard to track and display monthly metrics and compare against the 'best in class' values for card manufacturers. Six metrics were chosen to have the greatest impact on a company's manufacturing performance: Yield/Waste, Lead Time, Proof Turnaround Time, Sales Per Employee, Inventory Turns and On-time Shipment.

Benchmark benefits
Establishing a set of industry standards and benchmarks encourages member companies and personnel to perform at a high level to achieve 'best in class' status. The metrics chosen have a direct impact on profitability, cash flow and customer service. Customer service contributes the most to top line growth. Yield and Sales Per Employee have an impact on profitability. Inventory Turns impacts cash flow and Lead Time. Proof Turnaround Time and On-Time Shipment impacts customer service. Each metric, in some way, affects profitability.
